Press Release

Date: Nov. 17, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Bill Shuster (R-Hollidaysburg) hosted a widely attended Congressional briefing in Washington, DC on Tuesday morning to discuss the need for reforms to our nation's sugar program. The briefing included remarks by Congressman Bill Shuster, Congressman Mike Kelly, Grover Norquist, President of Americans for Tax Reform, representatives from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Sweeteners Users Association, and the National Confectioners Association.

"Our current sugar policies in the United States are outdated and costing consumers and taxpayers far too much," said Congressman Bill Shuster. "Sugar is an important product in the marketplace, but we should do away with the tariffs and import quotas that lead consumers to pay more at the grocery store. This briefing lays the groundwork for a needed discussion on the issue, and I will continue working with my colleagues to make reforms to the program.
